In Loving Memory of Diane Elaine Messick

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved partner, mother, sister and friend, Diane Elaine Messick, who departed this world on January 8, 2024, after a long illness.  Diane left us too soon but leaves behind many joyful memories of happier times where she was always the life of the party.

Diane was born on March 23, 1949 in Wilmington, Delaware to loving parents Dorothy and Richard Messick.  She graduated from Brandywine High School and then began a long career of 23 years at Bank of Delaware.  With her big personality, it was clear human resources was the path that suited her best and she served as Director of HR for Brooks Armored Car in Wilmington and Depasquale  Salon Systems in Fairlawn, New Jersey.  She retired in 2019 and embraced the free time with joy and gratitude.

More than 20 years ago, Diane met her partner and the love of her life, Bob Mangs, with whom she shared many happy days in Dewey Beach, Delaware and Key West, Florida, her "happy place."  They settled in Ft. Lee, New Jersey, with a spectacular view of the New York City skyline from their high-rise.  Many sunrise and sunset photos over the skyscrapers were posted by Diane as she enjoyed her morning coffee or a cocktail with Bob.  He was an incredible, loving and patient caregiver as she struggled with the diagnosis, treatment and complications from disease.

Diane  was young at heart throughout her days, and brought out the best in others.  She loved her many friends at Horizon House in Ft. Lee and upon retirement settled in to enjoy time at the pool and at the mahjong table. She loved her annual trip to Las Vegas with her son Paul. She had an indomitable spirit that she shared generously.

Diane is also survived by her loving son, Paul Mezzatesta, grandson Kurt Mezzatesta, great grandson Noah Mezzatesta, sister Deborah Hohlt (Richard) and nephew Luke Hohlt.  She is predeceased by both of her parents, Dorothy Pierce and Richard Messick.  Her absence will also be felt by her countless friends, colleagues, and all those whose lives she touched throughout her journey. Heaven recieved another star today.

We will celebrate Diane's remarkable life and the lasting impact she has had on each of us in the Spring with gatherings in New Jersey and Delaware.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The American Cancer Society

Rest in peace, dear Diane.
