Gloria
Chigounis
d. Apr 15, 2023
Gloria Chigounis (Peluso) passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2023, surrounded by her family, in the home wher e she was bor n 92 years ago. Gloria was the youngest of seven children, bor n in Clifton, NJ, May 25, 1931; daughter of Biagio and Rafaella Peluso.
Beloved mothe r , aunt, grandmothe r , cousin, friend, and neighbo r , Gloria had a compassionate heart. She spent her life helping others, and giving endless time to listen, and make people laugh: she embraced the adage that laughter is the best medicine. Her devotion to her family was endless, from Sunday dinners, holiday preparations and celebrations, to sharing stories of her childhood and past.
Gloria loved cooking, gardening, music and classic films: but most of all she loved being a mother and homemake r . After leaving an accounting position at Hewitt-Robins, in Passaic, NJ in the late 1950's, she married, became a mother, and raised four children. She valued time with her family, spending days in her lovely garden, and cooking in her kitchen that echoed recipes and flavors from her Italian ancestry.
Gloria graduated Clifton High School in 1949, and was a member of Sacred Heart Church. Her faith was evident in how she lived her life and treated others. She showed compassion, forgiveness, and love; not only to her family, but to everyone she met with unconditional acceptance. She imparted to us unconditional love, and joy of life, for which we are eternally grateful.
Gloria is predeceased by her husband, Evans; five brothers; one sister, and numerous cousins. She is survived by her four children, Lynn, Elisa Stearns, Charles, Evans Williams step-daughters, Francesca and Julia: grandchildren, Caitlin, Julian, and Ci r o; and her new g r eat-granddaughte r , Ingrid Louise; daughter-in-law, Kathryn; son-in-law, Rar es, and granddaughter-in-law Haley .
There will be a private memorial/celebration of life for family and friends. Gloria asked that her memory be honored by spreading kindness, compassion, and love; keep an open heart, and do what you can to make this world a better place.
