Gregory Patrick Costine
September 22, 1955 – December 11, 2025
Gregory Patrick Costine, esteemed entrepreneur and a man who was truly proud of, and loved dearly, his two beautiful daughters, Jessica and Julia, passed away peacefully on the evening of December 11, 2025, at the age of 70.
Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, on September 22, 1955, Gregory was the son of the late Virginia and Maurice Costine. He spent his formative years immersed in baseball—both on the field and in front of the television—as a lifelong supporter of the New York Yankees.
A tireless thinker and a man of ideas—some brilliant, others bold—Gregory wore the cloth of the entrepreneur throughout his life. He was the founding partner and visionary force behind Manhattan Bagel Inc., a company that grew to national recognition under his leadership. Widely credited as the "Father of the Bagel Sandwich," Gregory's creativity and business acumen left an indelible mark on the American food landscape.
Gregory is survived by his devoted, beautiful daughters, Jessica and Julia; his brothers, Ron Posyton and Jon Brown; his former wives, Lynn Wayman, Linda Clarke Costine, and Wendy Lovell Costine; his longtime companion, Patricia Carneglia; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Carroll Ann Posyton, and by his four brothers: David, Edward, William, and Thomas Costine.
He will be remembered for his boundless imagination, enduring determination, and the legacy he built—one filled with flavor, vision, and a true entrepreneurial spirit.
[A celebration of life for Greg will be held in the spring]
