Obituary

At the age of 106, Robert Pendelton Beaven died on January 1, 2024 at the Oaks Nursing Care Health Center in Denville, NJ. Born in 1917 in Pawtucket, RI while World War I was still raging, "Bob" Beaven led an incredibly full and interesting life, marked especially by the many hundreds of friends he met and stayed connected to. He grew up in Rhode Island and made the most of its coastline features and seafood!

Bob graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a BS in Chemistry in 1940. He joined the US Army in 1943 and eventually attained the rank of Captain. He served in WW II with the 63rd Infantry Division over 19 months in France, Germany and Austria. He then was in charge of a squadron of occupation troops in Austria for seven months. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1946 and began his business career, which was predominantly involved with sales and marketing positions in the industrial chemicals field, capped by his role as Executive Vice-President of Sales at Essex Chemical Company in Clifton, NJ. He belonged for 50+ years to the Upper Montclair Country Club in Clifton, where at age 103 he became the oldest, golf-playing active member.

Bob married Beverly Grout in Rhode Island in 1947, and they had two sons, Robert, Jr. and Brad. After a divorce in 1960, Bob moved to NJ to begin his career at Essex Chemical. In 1964 he married Claire Nash Radice of Clifton to whom he was married for 48 years until her passing in 2012. He had four step-children from Claire; Steven, Mark, Scott and Chrysa. Bob moved to the Oaks Retirement Community in Denville in 2013, where he met a fellow resident, Margaret Fahy. In their golden years together they traveled extensively and befriended many within and outside the Oaks Community.  At Oaks Bob was also able to continue his lifelong interests in golf, painting and woodworking.

Robert Beaven was a loyal and loving father, husband and friend who touched the lives of many, many people, all of whom will always remember him.
