Obituary

It is with deepest sorrow and profound heartbreak that we mourn the sudden passing of Steven Saranovic. Steven was born on November 22, 1989, and was taken from us entirely too soon on August 30, 2023, at the age of 33.

Steve followed his love for all things food-related and graduated from Montclair State University with a degree in Nutrition and Food Science. He applied his degree to become a Principal Regulatory Specialist at Flavor Producers, LLC. Here, he discovered his true passion for spreadsheets, processes, and "alleviating pain points," earning him such titles as "The Savant of NJ" and "Extracts and Essences Guru" from coworkers.

Steve's interests and hobbies were incredibly diverse. He loved cooking more than anything, especially if there was a loved one to spoil with a meal. He spent some of his happiest moments creating elaborate, multi-course meals for a gathering of his nearest and dearest. He was a coffee snob, alcohol aficionado, carnivorous plant cultivator, food critic, meat lover, and ultimate nerd, among dozens of other things. He had an insatiable curiosity for everything in life, always wanting to learn more and understand how everything worked.

Steve was known for his ability and eagerness to fix things. Fix bad days with an excellent meal, fix a faucet or a door with a wrench and a smile, or fix people with his warm, enduring love and friendship. He showed his love and care through acts of service for others, and nothing gave him more joy. It is hard for those who knew and loved him to look at their homes or lives and not see something that Steve fixed, installed, or in some way improved.

Steve was an amazing cat dad to his two little loves: Emma and the late Cleo. He spoiled them both endlessly. From his tireless fight to get Cleo to take her medicine, to indulging Emma's perpetual demands for cuddles, his devotion to his furry companions was always apparent for everyone to see.

Steve believed that you choose your family. During these difficult times, we saw that he had amassed quite a clan of sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, moms, and dads. And of course, all the little nieces and nephews he loved dearly. We got to witness all the love that he had put out over the years come back to him.

Steve continues to be cherished by his adoring wife, Lina, and all who had the privilege to share their lives with him. They love him, and miss him deeply.
